Construction Begins on the New Life Sciences Research and Nursing Education Building
On April 18, 2008 ground was broken to begin the construction of the new, state-of-the-art $43 million Life Sciences Research and Nursing Education building which represents the largest single investment in South Los Angeles in the past 25 years.
The two-story, 63,000-square-foot building will be located adjacent to the University’s main administration building in South Los Angeles, and is expected to be completed by spring 2009.

President's Welcome
Dr. Susan Kelly became the eighth president, and the first female to lead Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, when she took the position on May 1, 2006. An Australian, she earned her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Melbourne after receiving her graduate degree in education from the University of Canberra, and her undergraduate degree in psychology and English literature from the University of Tasmania.
In 1998, she was recruited to the United States to become Dean, Associate Provost and a tenured full professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UMW). Before coming to Charles Drew University, Dr. Kelly served as Vice-President for Higher Education and Business Partnerships at the Chicago-based Council of Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), a national non-profit organization committed to the advancement of adult and working students.
